Garden Pearls II
Project number: EE-LV00038
Project implementation timeline: 10/2023. - 2026.
About the project
The project addresses the lack of accessible tourism opportunities in the Estonia–Latvia cross-border area for people with disabilities, limited mobility, or other special needs (families, seniors, and people with mental disabilities).
Project main objectives
Project Objective:
The project aims to promote the creation of a network of accessible gardens, parks, and nature sites, increase the supply of accessible garden tourism, and foster sustainable tourism development.
Expected Results:
The expected outcome is an increase in tourist numbers within the region—specifically targeting new audience segments—thereby creating employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.
Project Activities:
Within the framework of the project, a common standard for the development of accessible garden tourism will be established, and an online platform titled “Garden Pearls for Everyone” will be launched. Additionally, training sessions will be organized for professionals within the garden tourism sector.
Implementation & Investment:
Furthermore, 13 pilot initiatives and 4 general investment measures will be implemented to improve and assess the accessibility of gardens and parks within the “Garden Pearls” network. Based on these pilot projects, the jointly developed solutions will be integrated into 17 gardens.
Participants
The project’s uniqueness lies in the synergy between accessibility and garden tourism, serving as the region’s Unique Selling Point (USP).
Cross-border cooperation is essential for sharing best practices and jointly addressing the accessibility challenges faced by numerous gardens and parks throughout the Estonia–Latvia program area.
