The Green Railways network consists of environmentally friendly tourism routes created along the corridors of former railway lines. They lead through picturesque landscapes, forests, and rural areas, offering a calm and safe environment for cyclists, hikers, horse riders, and in winter also for cross-country skiers and dog-sled rides. The routes are mostly surfaced with gravel, clearly signposted, and—thanks to their flat terrain—suitable for a wide range of travelers. Since 2014, they have been gradually restored in cooperation with Vidzeme municipalities and non-governmental organizations.
