On August 23, Cēsis hosted the training seminar “Opportunities for Mutual Cooperation within Vidzeme Military Heritage Tours,” organized as part of the Estonia-Latvia Programme project “Military Heritage.”
The morning began with a presentation of the new map and the project on the Latvian Radio 1 program “Kā labāk dzīvot” (How to Live Better), followed by a visit to the “Burning Conscience” (Sirdsapziņas ugunskurs) exhibition—an excellent example of how to engage the public regarding significant historical events.
During the radio broadcast, the new map and opportunities to explore military sites, military history, the Battles for Freedom, and the national resistance movement were discussed by Raitis Sijāts, Chairman of the Vidzeme Tourism Association; Jānis Rozenbergs, Mayor of Cēsis and grandson of the Freedom Battle participant and artist Jānis Rozenbergs; Asnāte Ziemele, President of the association “Lauku ceļotājs”; Andra Magone, Director of the Cēsis Culture and Tourism Center; and Elīna Kalniņa, curator of the “Burning Conscience” exhibition.
The August 23rd episode of “Kā labāk dzīvot” can be heard here: Historical military sites: Vidzeme military heritage map created.
The day continued with a seminar at Pils laukums 1, Cēsis. Attendees were introduced to the achievements of the project to date, the Vidzeme Military Heritage map was officially presented, and cooperation opportunities within the military heritage tours were discussed. All participants were among the first to receive the newly published maps!
