About the company
Bīriņi Castle was built in 1860 according to the design of Riga architect F. V. Hesse by August von Pistolkors, the grandson of Count Mellin. He married Emilie von Herder, the daughter of a wealthy St. Petersburg banker, and it is believed that her dowry helped enhance the appeal of Bīriņi. The overall architectural design of the building is in the neo-Gothic style, with semicircular window arches (Rundbogenstil), while the interior is in the neo-Renaissance style.
The castle complex includes a terraced garden with a gazebo on the shore of the lake, the Priežkalna park with 18th-century barrel-vaulted underground tombs, the expansive Emilie park with an artificially created pond system, and the Oak of Love, as well as watermills, a water tower, stables, a servants’ house, and the manor overseer’s house.
Today, Bīriņi Castle houses a hotel, a restaurant, offers the possibility to celebrate weddings and anniversaries, and provides tours to explore its history. For health and wellness, there are various saunas, horse riding, bike rides, boat trips, and romantic walking trails in the park.
